Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is a keen modern art collector. In 2008 he auctioned his "last Basquiat" for $13.5 million.
Crooner Engelbert Humperdinck was born Arnold George Dorsey. He borrowed his stage name from a German composer who died in 1921. Weirdly, Arnold Dorsey sounds much cooler.
Over the years, Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, Brian Epstein, George Martin, George Best and Billy Preston have all been referred to as The Fifth Beatle.

Tom Morello's father, Ngethe Njoroge, a Kenyan, was the country's first ambassador to the United Nations.
Chic's Le Freak was originally called Fuck Off. These were the words that were sung as the main hook, but they were changed to 'Freak out' before the song was recorded.
Edward Van Halen's middle name is Lodewijk, after composer Ludwig van Beethoven. (Lodewijk is the Dutch version of Ludwig.)

Red Hot Chili Pepper John Frusciante once planned to audition for Frank Zappa - until he found out about Zappa's strict 'no-drugs' rule for his band.
Lemmy of Motorhead's first band were called The Rockin' Vickers. They were the first British band to play behind the so-called 'Iron Curtain' when they visited Yugoslavia in 1965.
Before settling on ex-Scream member Dave Grohl, Nirvana went through five drummers: Aaron Burckhard (1987-1988), Dale Crover (1988 and 1990), Dave Foster (1988), Chad Channing (1988-1990) and Dan Peters (1990).

According to all-known recorded sales data, the harmonica is the world's best-selling musical instrument.
The oldest artist to top the UK singles chart was Louis Armstrong (aged 66 years and 10 month) in 1968 with What A Wonderful World.

Prog rockers Emerson Lake And Palmer knew how to tour. In 1977, they had 63 roadies, including a karate instructor for drummer Carl Palmer and the band's own doctor. It's rumoured they also had a 'carpet roadie', whose job was to transport and sweep the Persian rug that Greg Lake stood on during the shows. A 70 piece orchestra joined that lot.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird" is dedicated to Duane Allman of The Allman Brother's Band.
Before Neil Young joined Crosby, Stills and Nash, the members reached out to George Harrison and Eric Clapton to join the group.

Black Sabbath wrote the hit song “Paranoid” in 20 minutes to fill the remaining 3 minutes of time on their upcoming album. It is now regarded as one of the greatest rock and heavy metal songs of all time.
The Stuxnet virus, which was the virus that shut down the Iran’s nuclear plants, made emergency speakers blast “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC before shutting down all systems.
Queen’s guitarist, Brian May, has a PhD in Astrophysics.

System of a Down, The Beatles, Guns ‘N Roses, 2Pac and DMX are the only artists to have ever had 2 studio albums debut at #1 in the same year.
The sex noises in Rocket Queen by Guns N’ Roses were real and were made by Axl Rose having sex with Steven Adler’s girlfriend in the studio.
In 1991, during a period of only six weeks, five classic modern rock albums were released: Metallica’s Black Album, Pearl Jam’s Ten, Guns N’Roses’ Use Your Illusion, Nirvana’s Nevermind and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Blood Sugar Sex Magic. The last two were released on the same day.

Not sure, it was either Ozzy or Iommi, I think Iommi, (watched a short interview w him), said they’d just walk into the studio and it was like the songs were channeled to them within minutes.
And I’m not surprised. Page said they were sitting in front of the fireplace, and he played a few notes of Stairway, and Plant just started writing the lyrics automatically, n less than 45 mins.
Plant reportedly freaked out. I’m sure Page did NOT.
Pretty sure most great bands had the same thing happen. Hendrix dreamed Purple Haze right?
The question is, where did the channeling come from.
Oh and Brian May regularly visits the observatory in the Canary Islands, where I have cousins..one of them met him once heh

The story behind Geddy Lee's name...from a 1996 interview in Bass Frontiers magazine:
"My born name is Gary. My real name, now, is Geddy. Okay, it's like the same story of 'Leave it to Beaver'. (laughs). The story goes: my mother is Polish and she has a very thick accent. When I was about twelve years old, I had a friend who, whenever he heard my mother pronounce my name, he thought she was calling me, 'Geddy'. He started calling me 'Geddy', and eventually, all of my friends started calling me 'Geddy', and eventually my mother started to call me 'Geddy', for real. And eventually, I changed my name legally to 'Geddy', so that's the story and that's my name, Geddy."
