1962 , Ray Charles was No. 1 on the UK singles chart with the country ballad ' I can't stop loving you ' from his Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music album.



1969, One hit wonders Zager and Evans started a six week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'In The Year 2525, (Exordium And Terminus)'. The song was also No.1 in the UK, making them the only one hit wonders ever in both the US and UK singles charts.



1980, Olivia Newton-John and the Electric Light Orchestra had the UK No.1 single with 'Xanadu', taken from the film of the same name. It gave Olivia Newton-John her third UK No.1 single.



1986, Simply Red scored their first US No.1 single with 'Holding Back The Years'. Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall wrote the song when he was seventeen, while living at his father's house. The chorus did not come to him until many years later.



1943, Born on this day, Christine McVie, keyboards, vocals, Chicken Shack, Fleetwood Mac, (1987 UK No.5 single 'Little Lies' and 1977 US No.1 single 'Dreams', from world wide No.1 album 'Rumours'). Solo.



1962, Born on this day, Dan Murphy, guitar, Soul Asylum, (1993 US No.5 and UK No.7 single 'Runaway Train').

1974, Elton John started a two-week run at No.1 on the UK album chart with his eighth studio release, 'Caribou', and his third No.1 album.



1974, George McCrae started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Rock Your Baby', his only US No.1, also No.1 in the UK. Regarded by some as the first Disco No.1. It was a New York City club hit first.



1991, Bryan Adams went to No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Everything I Do I Do It For You'.

1962, Bobby Vinton started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Roses Are Red, My Love', a No.15 hit in the UK.



1964, The Rolling Stones were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'It's All Over Now'.



1979, Donna Summer scored her third No.1 US single with 'Bad Girls' the album of the same name also started a five week run at No.1.



1986, Madonna was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with her second No.1 'Papa Don't Preach'. Madonna also had the UK No.1 album with 'True Blue'.



1952, Born on this day, Bob Casale, best known as a guitarist and keyboardist in the new wave band Devo. He engineered the first solo album for Police guitarist Andy Summers. Casale died on February 17, 2014.
