1974, Terry Jacks was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Seasons In The Sun.' Jacks became the first Canadian to score a No.1 since Paul Anka in 1957.



1977, ABBA went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Dancing Queen', the group's 7th US Top 40 hit and first No.1. The song was also a No.1 in the UK in 1976 and 12 other countries.



1983, David Bowie was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with the title track from his latest album 'Let's Dance', his fourth UK No.1 and featuring blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan.



2000, Moby started a five-week run at No.1 on the UK album chart with 'Play'. The album went on to spend 81 weeks on the chart.

1932,Born on this day, was "the King of Rockabilly", Carl Perkins, American musician who recorded most notably at Sun Records Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, and is known for his song "Blue Suede Shoes". Perkins' songs were recorded by many artists including: Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Johnny Cash. He died on January 19, 1998.



1941, Born on this day in Knox City, Texas, was singer Kay Adams. In the 1960s, Adams arrived on the country scene with the songs "Six Days a Waiting," "Old Heart Get Ready," "Anymore," "Honky Tonk Heartache" and "She Didn't Color Daddy." At the inaugural Academy of Country Music Awards , in 1965, Adams was named Top New Female Vocalist.




1948, Born on this day, Phillip Wright, from Paper Lace who scored the 1974 UK No.1 single 'Billy Don't Be A Hero', and the 1974 US No.1 single 'The Night Chicago Died'.





1953, Born on this day in Greenwich, New York, was Hal Ketchum, country singer, songwriter. His 1991 album Past the Point of Rescue is his most commercially successful, having been certified gold and between 1991 and 2006, Ketchum scored seventeen entries on the Hot Country Songs charts.

1976, Peter Frampton went to No.1 on the US album chart with 'Frampton Comes Alive', one of the biggest selling 'live' albums in rock history. It was the best-selling album of 1976, selling over 6 million copies in the US. Frampton Comes Alive! was voted "Album of the year" in the 1976 Rolling Stone readers poll. It stayed on the chart for 97 weeks.



1982, Iron Maiden scored their first UK No.1 album with The Number Of The Beast. The bands third studio album saw the debut of vocalist Bruce Dickinson and the final appearance of the late drummer Clive Burr. This was their first album to reach No. 1 in the UK Albums Chart, and be certified platinum in the US.



1993,
Reba McEntire and Vince Gill held the pole position on the Billboard country singles chart with "The Heart Won't Lie."

1921, Born on this day, Sheb Wooley, actor and singer, best known for his 1958 novelty song and US No.1 'The Purple People Eater'. He died at the age of 82 in Nashville, Tennessee, on September 16, 2003.



1932, Born on this day, Nate Nelson, The Flamingos, 1959 hit 'I Only Have Eyes For You'.



1936, Born on this day, Bobbie Smith from American rhythm and blues vocal group the Detroit Spinners who had the 1980 UK No.1 & US No.2 single 'Working My Way Back To You'.



1950, Born on this day, Ernest Stewart, keyboards, with American disco and funk group KC and the Sunshine Band who had the 1975 US No.1 single 'That's The Way, I Like It', and the 1983 UK No.1 single 'Give It Up'. He died on 26th April 1997.



1950, Born on this day, Dave Peverett, (also known as Lonesome Dave) was an English singer and guitarist with Savoy Brown and a founder member of Foghat, who had the 1976 US No. 20 single 'Slow Ride'. He died of cancer on 7th February 2000.



1959, Born on this day, American guitarist, singer, and songwriter Brian Setzer, guitar, vocals, The Stray Cats who spearheaded the neo-rockabilly movement of the early 1980s.

1963, Gerry and the Pacemakers were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'How Do You Do It'' The group's first of three UK No.1's.



1970, The Beatles started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Let It Be'. It became the group's 19th US No.1 in 6 years. The track was a No.2 hit in the UK.



1987, K.T. Oslin was at #1 on the Country chart with her debut album 80's Ladies. "Wall of Tears," the title track, "Do Ya'" and "I'll Always Come Back" were all released as singles from the album.



2005, Trace Adkins was at #1 on the country chart with Songs About Me, his seventh album and his highest-selling album to date. Singles from this album include the title track, "Arlington", and "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk", which respectively reached #2, #16, and #2 on the Billboard country charts.

1964, Born on this day, in Greenville, Mississippi, was Steve Azar, country music singer, songwriter who scored the 2002 US Country #2 "I Don't Have to Be Me ('Til Monday)", which was the lead-off single from his second studio album, Waitin' on Joe.

1957, The 'King of Skiffle' Lonnie Donegan was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Cumberland Gap.' The Scottish musician was a former member of Chris Barber's Jazz Band.



1969, The 5th Dimension started a six week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In', a No.11 hit in the UK.



1989, Garth Brooks released his self-titled debut album which was both a critical and chart success, peaking at #13 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the Top Country Albums  and his first No.1, 'If Tomorrow Never Comes'.

1925, Born on this day in Rains, Carbon County, Utah, was Ned Miller, known for his hit single, "From a Jack to a King", a crossover hit in 1962 which reached the Top 10 on the country music chart. Ricky Van Shelton later had a #1 hit with his version of the song.



1933, Born on this day, American singer Tiny Tim, who had a 1968 US No.17 single with ‘Tiptoe Through The Tulips’. He died of a heart attack on November 29th 1996 on stage while playing his hit ‘Tiptoe Through the Tulips’ at a club in Minneapolis.



1944, Born on this day, German-Canadian rock singer, songwriter, and guitaris John Kay, from Steppenwolf who had the 1969 US No.2 hit single 'Born To Be Wild'. Steppenwolf sold over 25 million records worldwide, released eight gold albums and scored 12 Billboard Hot 100 singles.



1957, Born on this day in Norman, Oklahoma, was Vince Gill, country singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Gill was a member of country rock band Pure Prairie League in the 1970s, and then went solo in 1983.
